Gas Detection Control Panels
A gas detection control panel is the heart of a fixed system. It powers the detectors, shows gas levels and alarm states, and switches the sounders, beacons, ventilation and gas valves that protect people when gas is detected.
Types of control panel
Single and two-channel panels for a plant room, boiler house or small store.
Multi-channel panels for several areas, with relays per channel or per alarm level.
Addressable panels that put many detectors on a shared cable, reducing installation cost on larger sites.
What to specify
Number and type of detectors, and the signal they use (4-20 mA, mV bridge or digital).
Alarm levels per gas, latching or non-latching alarms, and fault indication.
Outputs: relays for sounders, beacons, fans and solenoid valves, and signals to a BMS or fire panel.
Power supply and battery back-up.
Location, enclosure rating and whether the panel must be outside the hazardous area.
Panels we supply
We supply panels to your specification, including Crowcon Gasmaster and Vortex, and WatchGas COMBI and 404+ panels. See all fixed gas control panels and fixed gas transmitters. Our fixed gas detection quote builder helps you list what you need.
Alarm levels
Toxic gas alarm levels should follow your risk assessment and the detector's capability, with the UK exposure limits as a reference (see our EH40 exposure limits reference); flammable gas alarms are typically set at 10% and 20% LEL, depending on your site standard. A low alarm often starts ventilation, a high alarm evacuates and isolates gas supplies, and a fault alarm warns that a detector needs attention.
Servicing panels and detectors
A panel is only as good as the detectors connected to it. Our engineers visit site to gas test and calibrate each detector, test the panel's alarms and outputs, and record the results, usually every six or twelve months. See gas detector servicing and repair.

Frequently asked questions
What does a gas detection control panel do?
It powers and monitors the gas detectors, shows readings and alarm states, logs events and switches outputs such as sounders, beacons, ventilation and gas shut-off valves.
How many detectors can a panel take?
It depends on the panel. Single and two-channel panels suit small plant rooms; multi-channel and addressable panels take many detectors across a site.
Can a gas panel connect to a BMS or fire panel?
Most panels provide relay outputs and many offer 4-20 mA or digital communications for building management or fire systems. Confirm the interface when specifying.
Do you design gas detection systems?
No. We supply panels and detectors to your specification or your consultant's design, and service and calibrate installed systems.
