Water is essential and indispensable to all life forms.
The water that we use everyday must be treated to ensure that it is safe to drink and use, and industries that use water will treat it before the water is discharged to rivers and other water bodies.
Safety Monitors understand the water treatment industry, and have been supporting the application of Safety Monitoring Instrumentation when introducing innovative and cost-effective water treatment solutions.
Aeration Solutions
Oxygen is essential for aerobic respiration of facultative bacteria that treat wastewater. Aerobic treatment of wastewater is a biological process that uses oxygen to break down organic contaminants and other pollutants like nitrogen and phosphorous.
Oxygen is continuously mixed into the wastewater or sewage by a mechanical aeration device, such as an air blower or compressor.
Aeration Solutions reduces chemical oxygen demand. This is an indicative measurement of the amount of oxygen that can be consumed by reactions in a measured solution.
Individuals that operate the Aeration systems would be recommended to wear a Portable Gas Monitor. This will be beneficial for the individual so that you can combat unwanted exposure.
Water Purification Solutions
Antimicrobial agents are added to drinking water and water in swimming pools and spas to purify it.
We offer a large range of gases; the most common gases that are used in the water purification process are the following;
The most common purification method involves chlorine or its compounds such as chloramine or chlorine dioxide. Chlorine is a strong oxidant that rapidly kills many harmful micro-organisms. Because chlorine is a toxic gas, there is a danger of a release associated with its use.
We would recommend the use of Portable Safety Monitors for the individual to wear so they can monitor their individual exposure. We would also recommend a Fixed Gas Detection System for continuous monitoring and sampling.
This reduces the risk of exposure as the Fixed Gas Detection system continuously monitors the area even if there are no individuals present, this means that a toxin or toxin(s) can be detected without the risk of exposure. (Individuals do not have to be physically present for a leak or unwanted exposure to be detected)
Ozone Generation
Ozone is extremely effective in the removal of trace organics, colour and Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDC) in water.
Oxygen is used for ozone generation and we supply reliable high purity oxygen to support this application.
In addition we also hire and sell Portable Safety Monitors that have Ozone capabilities. We would suggest the WatchGas UNI O3 (Ozone) However this will be dependant on the desired Parts Per Million (PPM) and any other toxins that may be present.
Solutions for pH control
Carbon dioxide is an environmentally friendly gas to reduce pH of effluents, this in turn neutralises it. Using carbon dioxide to control the pH content of a site's water offers measurable safety and cost advantages over treatment systems that employ toxic sulfuric acid.
Carbon dioxide is a safer alternative that minimizes environmental exposure and the risk of catastrophic accidental injuries. The risk of carbon dioxide increases when present in a confined space. A confined space is a place which is substantially enclosed (though not always entirely), and where serious injury can occur from hazardous substances or conditions within the space or nearby.
If Carbon Dioxide is being used within the pH process and the individual is in a confined space we would recommend a Portable Safety Monitor.
pH Control for Swimming Pools Replacing hazardous chemicals with food grade carbon dioxide (COâ‚‚) for pH stabilisation in swimming pools delivers a range of benefits including an improved safety profile for staff and users, increased user comfort, and a milder impact on the pool structure and the environment. In water, COâ‚‚ forms a mild carbonic acid that also helps maintain alkalinity and reduce total dissolved solids. It forms a natural bicarbonate buffer which minimises peaks and troughs of pH.
In addition we would recommend any individuals that operate or in the presence of the pH control process should wear a Portable Safety Monitor. This will assist with understanding the unwanted and potentially harmful by-products of your desired process and how to combat this effectively to lower individual exposure.
A Fixed Gas Detection system could also assist with detection of any unwanted exposure, this system has its advantages as this will continuously monitor the atmosphere and in most cases can monitor a larger area for multiple individuals. The other positive would be that an individual does not need to risk exposure to monitor the atmosphere.
