Gas Detector Calibration & Servicing
Just select your service below order online and we will send over a free post bag and service return form. Once you have received just pop the instrument and form in the bag and take it to a post office we will take it from there.
Service & Calibration
We are proud of our service & maintenance department. Our technicians inspect new equipment last before it gets to you. They take it apart when it returns for service and maintenance. In that regard, they know the product better than anyone. Especially how various brands and types perform in different environments and applications across gas detection, from single gas clip-ons and 4-gas confined space monitors to PID, multigas and fixed gas detection systems.
All our Engineer and Technicians are trained in safety, ATEX and all possible manufacturer’s service and maintenance trainings. Our workshops are fully equipped and we stock almost every instrument part. That’s how we have the fastest turnaround times in the industry. Ready while you wait, service at your doorstep: overused phrases that we make true every day.
Did you know that we also service contaminated devices?
Having a calibrated instrument means you can rely on it. It’s the final check of any detector.
We can also train your employees to perform your own calibrations. To be able to do that, we can supply you with a full range of calibration accessories, from the high-end multiple docking stations with fully automated testing and calibration, to the smallest hose and filter, and everything in between.
Calibration prices: one rate for every brand
We charge by type of instrument, not by manufacturer, so a Honeywell, Crowcon, Dräger, MSA or WatchGas detector of the same type costs the same to calibrate. Prices are per instrument and exclude VAT; parts such as sensors, filters and batteries are quoted before any work is done.
Single gas detector calibration and service: £40
4-gas monitor calibration and service: £50
Multigas monitor (5 or 6 sensors) calibration and service: £90
PID / VOC monitor calibration and service: £140
Bump test or calibration: what is the difference?
A bump test is a quick functional check. The detector is exposed to a gas concentration high enough to trigger its alarms, proving the sensors respond and the alarms work. Many manufacturers recommend one before each day's use. A calibration adjusts the instrument's readings against certified test gas of a known concentration, so the numbers on the display are accurate. It is done at the interval the manufacturer specifies, typically every six months, and recorded on a certificate.
If a detector fails a bump test it must not be used until it has been calibrated or repaired.
Brands and instruments we service
7 Solutions is a Crowcon service centre, and our engineers are trained to service portable gas detectors from Honeywell (BW and RAE Systems), WatchGas, Dräger, Crowcon, MSA, Industrial Scientific, GMI, Oldham and more. That covers single gas clip-ons such as the BW MicroClip, 4-gas confined space monitors, multigas instruments, and PIDs such as the MiniRAE, ToxiRAE and UltraRAE ranges.
How our calibration service works
1. Book: order online or call 01489 326031. We send a free post bag and service return form.
2. Send: put the instrument in the bag and drop it at a post office.
3. Inspect and calibrate: we check the instrument, replace worn filters, test the sensors and calibrate against certified gas. If parts are needed we quote first.
4. Return: the instrument comes back with its certificate, normally within five working days.
What we find most often
The most common faults we see are sensors at the end of their life (electrochemical sensors usually last two to three years), blocked or contaminated filters, flammable sensors poisoned by silicones, damaged pump tubing on confined space monitors, and instruments that have simply gone past their calibration date. Catching these at a scheduled service is far cheaper than finding them during an incident.
Traceable, documented and ISO 9001
Calibrations are carried out against certified test gas with traceable cylinder certificates, under our ISO 9001 certified quality management system. Every instrument gets its own certificate, and we can send reminders when calibration is next due so nothing in your fleet lapses.
On-site service and fixed gas detection
For larger fleets, or where instruments cannot leave site, our engineers can calibrate on site. We also service and calibrate fixed gas detection systems on six-monthly or annual contracts, covering transmitters, control panels and alarm testing.
Frequently asked questions
How often should a gas detector be calibrated?
It depends on the instrument and how it is used. Follow the manufacturer's recommendation, which is commonly every six months, with a bump test before each day's use where the manufacturer recommends it. Your instrument manual and risk assessment set the exact interval; harsh environments or frequent alarms can justify calibrating more often.
What is the difference between a bump test and a calibration?
A bump test briefly exposes the sensors to a known gas to prove the detector responds and alarms. A calibration adjusts the readings against certified test gas so they are accurate, and is recorded on a certificate. A bump test checks; a calibration corrects.
Do you calibrate detectors you did not supply?
Yes. We calibrate and repair any make of portable gas detector, wherever it was bought, and our rates are the same for every brand.
How long does calibration take?
We aim to return instruments within five working days of receiving them, and often sooner. If you need a faster turnaround or a loan unit while yours is with us, call 01489 326031.
What certificate do I get?
Each instrument is returned with a calibration certificate showing the serial number, the test gases and their traceable cylinder details, the readings before and after adjustment, and the next due date.
Can you calibrate on site?
Yes. For larger fleets and fixed gas detection systems our engineers can visit your site, which keeps instruments in service. Call us to discuss numbers and location.

Fully Equipped Service Trucks
Whether you have a big fleet of gas detectors or just a few, but crucial, instruments, it might be undesirable to send them to 7 Solutions for service and calibration.
For those instances, we have a fully equipped service van so we can service your instruments at your door step. Saving you the hassle of logistics, it could even mean that you need fewer instruments. Even in our service van, we service every possible make and type of gas detectors, portable or fixed.
